How Assassin's Creed Unity Can Save Notre Dame

In April 16, French were shocked with a news about a fire-burning building. The fire almost destroy the whole building, but the firefighter come in the right time to put out the fire. It was really devastating for all of us and french people in particular. Why? Because it was not just an ordinary building, but it was Notre Dame. One of the most historical building in the world, where all of the french historical artifacts was stored and also the silent witness to a french revolution.

Of course this tragedy did not cause any casualties, but there's still a sense of loss over this historical monument. Especially when the cathedral's spire went down. Luckily, the fire didn't destroyed all building, only some parts like the stained glass window, the roof where the fire began, the oak frame, and the spire. Most expert and historian are expected something like this to be happen, because most of the Notre Dame's building material is so old. Thus making Notre Dame vulnerable to fire. That's why they renovate Notre Dame. And thanks to the renovation, all of the historical artifacts like the Holy Crown of Thorns, and a sacred tunic worn by 13^th century French King Louis that was stored in the cathedral, have been removed.

And for your information, this is actually not the first time Notre Dame is almost destroyed. It was happen in the early 19^th century, and thanks to the Victor Hugo's novel “Notre-Dame de Paris”. The cathedral was gaining enough attention and finally restored. That means the same thing can happen, the historical cathedral can be restored again after the fire. And it does, everyone from a billionaire and a country like Japan have been donating some money to help rebuild Notre Dame. But i think that's not enough, French government need one more help.

Not from another billionaire or an organization, but from a video game. And that game is Assassin's Creed Unity. If you have played this game, you must be know that this game is set in the french revolution. The time before the Notre Dame almost destroyed. But why Assassin's Creed? Well, this game is known in its world recreation of actual location like Vatican in Brotherhood, Giza Pyramid in Origins, and Notre Dame in Unity. The artist of the game, Caroline Miousse, took two years to perfect Notre Dame's appearance. She make sure that each brick is where it should be.

Miousse also worked with historian to research and build every section of the building. They rebuild the cathedral in a 1:1 ration and even helped her figured out which painting that was hang on the walls, how tall the spire should be, and a lot of other detail that was poured into this game. If they did use Unity to restored Notre Dame, then that means there's two thing that can be broke. First, a stigma about video game is bad for your kids. And second, what some people said about too late to save and rebuild Notre Dame. We did have lost a piece of history. But hope is still there as long as we all stand together and help rebuild Notre Dame.

Last time we're already talking about the best Gameboy Advanced games off all time. And now I'm going to give you another nostalgic feeling. But this time with the old Nintendo DS, the most successful video games console that Nintendo ever had (after Switch of course).

Anyway before I wrote this article, I did some research (which is in Wikipedia). Turns out that Nintendo DS is the second in best-selling video game consoles with 154.02 million, just below Playstation 2 with more than 155 million sell worldwide! Not just that, another thing that make Nintendo DS so special is the games. For you guys who own Nintendo DS, you must be remember playing games like Mario Kart, Pokemon Series, GTA Chinatown Wars, and many more. There are so many cool games with a stunning graphic and a very touching story. Well let's stop wasting some time and go to the list.

Best Nintendo DS Games Of All Time

Just for your information, this list is based on the Nintendo DS games that are known to have sold or shipped at least one million copies. So it's not based on my favorite DS games.

1. New Super Mario Bros

Let's start the first list with the most iconic and popular video game character ever. Who is it? Yes, it's Mario. This side-scrolling video game was developed by Nintendo EAD in 2006, actually New Super Mario Bros is the same like the old Super Mario Bros game. You just running, jumping from one platform to another, saving Princess Peach, etc. But what make this game so successful is that the graphic have been improved since the last game and there are lots of new power ups, like blue koopa shell, mega mushroom, etc. There ten levels in each of eight worlds that you need to complete, but remember don't be to happy if you finish a level in this game. Because the Princess will be in another castle.


2. Nintendogs

This game maybe look silly and not cool at all (Just look at the name!). But trust me, Nintendogs  have been sold 23.96 million copies worldwide, making it second on the Nintendo DS best-sellers list, behind New Super Mario Bros! That's why you shouldn't judge the book it's cover. Anyway this game is pretty simple, all you have to do is to take care of your virtual pet. Like playing with toys, giving them command like sit, roll, etc. This game is pretty interesting because the dogs are pretty realistic, especially if you didn't have a pet. And if you are a lonely guy who like to cry in the corner, then this game is for you.


3. Mario Kart DS

In number three we have another Mario games, but this time it's not Super Mario. It's Mario Kart DS. If we are talking about DS games, the first thing that came across our mind is this masterpiece. This game was released in 2005 and the fifth installment in the Mario Kart series. Mario Kart DS is just like every racing game. You pick a character, then pick the kart, and race until you win all cup. But there's one thing that make this game memorable, it's the item boxes. Yes, you can find all sort of thing from weapons, power-ups, to traps. Not only that, there are also eight characters that you can pick such as Mario, Bowser, Waluigi, etc. Not to mention the five single player mode's like Grand Prix where you have win all the cup, Time Trial where you have to set your best time in a circuit, Mission where you have to clear some objectives, Battle, and Mission. Anyway just pick your favorite character, throw some bananas, and take all that shiny trophies.


4. Brain Age

Brain Age or Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training: How Old Is Your Brain? Is another DS game that responsible for making Nintendo super rich. It was release in 2005 in Japan, Brain Age is a pretty simple game. You just have to solve or answer all the puzzles and the game will tell you the results. It's kinda like training for your brain. Wait does that mean this game make me smarter? To be honest I'm not really sure, because I didn't play this game. But don't worry, I have done some research. And it turns out many people said that this game has been scientifically proven. So that mean Brain Age definitely will make you smarter.

5. Pokemon Diamond and Pearl

Who doesn't know Pokemon? If you are a die hard Pokemon fans, you must be know about this game. This gen 4 Pokemon is probably the best Pokemon games so far, how do i know? Well, around 18 million units have been sold worldwide, Diamond and Pearl have sold over 2 million more units than Ruby and Sapphire and almost 6 million more units than Fire Red and Leaf Green, while outselling their successors, Black and White, by over 2 million copies. Pokemon Diamond and Pearl is set in Sinnoh region with a new legendary Pokemon call creation trio, and you will confronted by an evil team called galactic. The gameplay in the other hand is the same like previous Pokemon games. But still, I still remember the memory and the awesomeness that this game leave.



6. Pokemon Black and White

Another Pokemon games fill this list, but this time it came from the generation 5. Yes, it's the Pokemon Black and White. Unova is the fresh new region that introduced by Game Freak in September 2010, the gameplay of course is the same like any Pokemon games before. But what makes Pokemon Black and White so awesome, is that this game have a really deep story. For the first time, Game Freak make a really evil team with a clear goal. Which is to encourage all people in Unova to release their Pokemon, so they can control it. Also, the battle animation in this game is really different than previous Pokemon games. Not to mention the seasonal cycles, rotation battle, and the 157 new Pokemon for you to capture. So what are you waiting for? Play this game and try to catch em' all.

Because just like the official games. Your Dad has been missing for several years. You are a young trainer, love Pokemon and live with your Mom. One day, she asks you to go to Northcote City to collect a parcel for her from a strange Professor. When you meet him, he says your Dad is a famous scientist and maybe was arrested by the Dark Team. So you want to have an adventure to rescue your Dad and save the world. A lot of things are waiting for you ahead.

You will start a new adventure in a new region called Koren and Kaioh, with a new Tiles, Sprites and Color Schemes. And all Pokemon from Generation I to IV are available for you to catch.

4. Pokemon Resolute

At the welcome screen, you can choose who you want to be. If you want to be a boy, you are LOGAN and to be a girl, your name will be ALMA. You are living with your Mom in Cedar City. With the helps of Professor AVERY, you have your first Pokemon to make an adventure around SYLON. Along your way, you gradually know about Team Mirage’s plan to reform this region. You know your important mission is to stop them before you can challenge with Elite Four.

Lots of Pokemon rom hack have two regions system but in this hack there are three regions: Sylon, Tyron, and Johto. There's also a battle department if you are bored and gen 4 to 6 Pokemon are available, and you can even mega evolve your Pokemon!

5. Pokemon Dark Rising 2

The story of the first part has been continued in the second part. The game start with your character waking up from the long sleep and you are in a dark cave. You only see one color – it is black. You try to scream out and find someone help you. You see two people that is standing by a dark altar. You feel so confused but you still heard they are talking about “Shadow Plate”. They attack you and you use your Pokemon to defend. Then you can see another strange man with R logo on his shirt. Then a giant shadow is coming to you. A noise sound and you wake up again. Now you can realize all things which happened are only in a bad dream. You get up and go out. In the near future, you will realized your dream is coming true.

If you are a fans of fakemon, you should play this. Because there are lost of fakemon like regifire, regighost, etc. You will play in a new region with a new heroes and herobrine and harder mode. There are lots of side quests that  you will encounter and a time based events.

9. Pokemon Victory Fire

The gameplay is almost the same as other Hacks. You are a boy/girl living in a small town in TYRON Region. You need to travel around all cities and towns to collect 8 GYM Badges then you can challenge in Pokemon League. But your adventure is not simple like that because you will need to destroy TEAM MIRAGE before they can harm other people, steal Pokemon of other trainers and be the new owner of your region.

There are new region and new characters, rivals and gym leaders that you will meet. There's even an underground black market! New tilesets and sprites are added and Pokemon from gen 4 and 5 re available.

10. Pokemon Adventure Red Chapter

This game is exactly based on the Pokemon Adventure manga. Nearly all the original events will happen in this game, however some of them were changed to become longer. By following the manga, you will not get your starter Pokemon right from the beginning, but later in the game you can have them all.

In this game, you will only play as Red. And there will be two rivals: Blue (boy rival) and Green (girl rival). There are several changes in this game like Ice-Type is super effective against Fairy. It also resists Water, Ground and Flying-Types, Grass-Type deals normal damage against Flying-Type, and Rock-Type resists Dragon-Type. And some bonus or optional events that will changed the story line are added.

While for handheld game consoles, it supports Game Boy Advance games and older. RetroArch is actually based on cores, with each core emulating a console, i.e. GBA will have its own core as well as the NES. This means that as new emulators get created, it is possible to turn them to cores to run on RetroArch. In fact, it is also possible to run it on various modern consoles.

2. OpenEmu

This emulator is the same like RetroArch. But the difference is, OpenEmu is an emulator for Mac users. The default download of the software won’t emulate the same amount of consoles as Retroarch can but there is an experimental version that will, note that it may not be as stable. If you have a Mac and a lot of old video games lying around, OpenEmu is most definitely the one to get. 3. Dolphin

Dolphin is an emulator for PC, where you can play Gamecube/Wii emulator and is currently the only emulator that can emulate a console of the 7th generation (PS3/XBox 360/Wii) and emulate it well, due to the internals being similar to the GameCube. The emulator will also allow you to run your GameCube games on a HD wide screen, even if the game doesn’t support it. It is under constant development, with their latest being able to tap into Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, so expect continuous improvements and updates.

4. PCSX2

Playstation 2 is the most popular console, and if you didn't have one. Don't worry because PCSX2 is there for you. The one disadvantage is that this emulator requires a fairly powerful computer due to the structure of the PS2 internals but if you’ve got that covered, it can run most of the games available on the platform. PCSX2 is based on a plug-in system and with the proper configurations, you can upscale your games to HD quality.

5. PPSSPP

Just like the name, this emulator is made for playing PSP games. It was created by one of the cofounders of Dolphin and just like Dolphin, is easy to set up and can play a large number of PSP games. You can even transfer your PSP saves into it and continue where you left off. PPSSPP is still a work in progress with new features and fixes constantly being added.

6. DeSmuME

There are lots of Nintendo DS emulator out there. And I think the best one among them, will be DeSmuME. With both screens simulated on your computer monitor. Your mouse is used as a stylus for the touch input. It even supports games that require you to play your device sideways. It’s been in constant development with the developers improving and adding new features into it to make it run smoothly. And it has been on the scene long, so most games should be able to run on it without problems.

7. DOSBox

Did you have an old Dos games that you can't play anymore? If you do, then you should try this emulator. DOSBox specializes in emulating an environment where MS-DOS programs can run as intended. In fact, it runs so well that game companies use it to repackage their old DOS games so that they can be played on modern computers. As a side note, it is entirely possible to run Windows 9x and DOS-based operating systems on DOSBox if you want to.

8. ScummVM

If you’re a fan of the old style click-and-point adventures, you’re sure to enjoy ScummVM. This program was design to run games that uses the SCUMM scripting language, which was used in many click-and-point games made by LucasArts as well as other companies. Because of this, it can run games on systems other than the one originally intended. So games that were made for Windows can now run on Mac or Linux.

9. ePSXe

Now if you still miss the old Playstation 1 games, you should download this emulator. Because this program will allow you to run nearly all your PS1 games flawlessly, so long as your machine has the juice and is configured correctly. The emulator uses a plug-in system where nearly everything is handled using plug-ins, so you might want to research on the best way to configure it to your computer.

10. Mupen64plus

Mupen64plus is an N64 emulator. The program itself doesn’t come with a GUI so downloading a front-end may be required for ease of use, with the developers providing links to some recommended ones. Similar to many programs emulating its generation of consoles, it uses a plug-in system and you would definitely want to try a few to enhance your performance.
